Recovery filtration in water and environmental technologies

From membrane protection to greywater recovery, from seawater treatment to wastewater discharge: filtration engineering that reduces water stress.

Critical points

Points where filtration is decisive in water and environment processes

Membrane fouling, turbidity and corrosion are the three critical risk points of water treatment systems. Each is solved with a well-designed filtration strategy.

Membrane Protection

In RO and UF systems, membrane fouling and replacement are the biggest costs. 0.5–5 micron pre-filters ahead of the membrane capture suspended solids, extend membrane life and reduce CIP frequency. The investment typically pays back in 6–12 months.

Solution: Staged pre-filtration ahead of membranes

Turbidity Control and Disinfection Efficiency

Microorganisms hiding behind particles are not affected by UV and chlorination systems. Pre-filtration removes this shadowing effect. Greywater purified by filtration is recovered as landscape or process water, reducing fresh water consumption.

Solution: Particle removal before disinfection

Seawater Treatment: Corrosion-Resistant Systems

Standard 304 or 316 stainless steels quickly suffer pitting corrosion in seawater. Super Duplex steel or specially coated housings are mandatory in these applications.

Solution: Super Duplex or coated housings

Treatment line

Which filter at which stage?

Select a stage on your line to see the Prosestim filters and micron range used at that point.

01 · 50–300 µm

Capture sand, rust and large solids at the start of the line

Washable elements that separate large particles at the raw water inlet extend the life of the consumable cartridges in later stages.

02 · 5–50 µm

Capture suspended solids in depth

Depth filters spread particles through the full thickness of the cartridge, so differential pressure rises slowly. On high-flow lines, High Flow cartridges reduce the number of cartridges.

03 · Activated carbon

Capture chlorine, taste and odor before they reach the membrane

Activated carbon cartridges adsorb chlorine, odor, taste and VOCs. CTO block and GAC granular types are selected according to flow and temperature conditions.

04 · 0,5–5 µm

The last barrier right before the membrane

0.5–5 micron pre-filters ahead of the membrane capture suspended solids, extend membrane life and reduce CIP frequency.

05 · Your existing system

It’s your system; our job is to protect it

In RO and UF systems, membrane fouling and replacement are the biggest costs. The earlier stages extend membrane life and reduce CIP frequency.

This stage is your existing equipment. Let’s design the earlier stages together; our engineers will recommend the right filter.

06 · UV · chlorination

So UV and chlorination aren’t left in the shadow

Microorganisms hiding behind particles are not affected by UV and chlorination systems. Pre-filtration removes this shadowing effect.

This stage is your existing equipment. Let’s design the earlier stages together; our engineers will recommend the right filter.

Applications

Where is it used in the water and environment industry?

The same filtration principles apply across applications, with different material and micron choices.

Membrane protection

0.5–5 µm pre-filtration ahead of RO and UF systems.

Greywater recovery

Water purified by filtration is reused as landscape or process water.

Seawater treatment

Super Duplex or coated housings against pitting corrosion.

Wastewater discharge

Suspended solids and turbidity control before discharge.
