PCP Bag Filter
PP Outer Layers, Cotton Core: Chemical Resistance and Oil Retention Combined
The PCP bag filter is a process-specific three-layer liquid filtration medium that combines the chemical resistance of polypropylene outer layers with the oil absorption of a natural cotton core.

What Is a PCP Bag Filter?
PCP bag filters are a three-layer liquid filtration medium with a natural cotton core layer between two outer polypropylene layers. The outer polypropylene layers provide chemical resistance and structural stiffness (limited with strong acids because of the cotton core), and stop fibre migration from the cotton core, preventing fibres from getting into the cleaned liquid. The middle cotton layer retains fine particles down to 0.5 µm in depth in dense liquids, while its naturally lipophilic structure also absorbs non-emulsified free oil particles.
PCP keeps the same cotton-core absorption capacity as SCS, but because the outer layer material changes to polypropylene, it works reliably in more chemically demanding processes. PCP bag filters are not a standard product; each is made specifically for the process according to liquid type, viscosity, temperature and chemical profile.
Product Identity and Technical Summary
PCP bag filters are three-layer hybrid depth filters made by laminating two outer polypropylene layers with a natural cotton core in the middle. They offer operating temperatures up to 90 °C; the PP outer layers provide chemical resistance, limited with strong acids because of the cotton core. In addition, the lipophilic structure of the natural cotton core provides particle retention at 0.5–0.8 µm and free oil absorption in high-viscosity, oily liquids. The outer polypropylene layers prevent fibre migration and ensure a clear product output.

PCP Bag Filter Layer Structure
| Layer | Material | Function |
|---|---|---|
| Outer Layer (Inlet Surface) | Polypropylene (PP) | Retains large particles as a pre-stage; provides chemical resistance and structural strength. |
| Middle Layer | Natural Cotton | Retains fine particles down to 0.5 µm in depth in dense liquids; absorbs free oil with its lipophilic structure. |
| Inner Layer (Outlet Surface) | Polypropylene (PP) | Stops fibres that may come loose from the cotton layer from getting into the cleaned liquid and provides chemically resistant structural integrity. |
Advantages of the PCP Bag Filter
- Sub-Micron Particle Retention
- Fine particle retention down to 0.5 µm in dense liquids, a level of precision standard bag filters cannot reach.
- Chemical Resistance Across a Wide pH Range
- The PP outer layers provide chemical resistance (limited with strong acids because of the cotton core); they work more reliably in chemically demanding processes than the spunbond outer layers of SCS.
- Oil Absorption by the Cotton Core
- The lipophilic structure of the cotton middle layer absorbs non-emulsified free oil particles; protected by chemically resistant outer layers, this property stands out in oily processes with chemical content.
- High Structural Stiffness
- The stiffness of the PP outer layers gives the medium dimensional stability, reducing the risk of deformation in high-pressure and high-viscosity applications.
- Fibre Migration Protection
- The PP outer layers stop fibres that may come loose from the cotton core from getting into the cleaned liquid.
- Made to Process Requirements
- Made specifically according to liquid type, viscosity, temperature and chemical profile.
