What Is a PTFE (Teflon) Bag Filter?

PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene), commonly known as Teflon, is a fluoropolymer material noted for its high temperature resistance and chemical inertness. PTFE bag filters, made by turning this material into bag filters, were developed for industrial filtration applications with extremely demanding operating conditions. Withstanding 240 °C continuously and 260 °C peaks, these bags offer a clear advantage in processes where media such as conventional polyester or Nomex fall short.

PTFE’s low surface energy makes it harder for dust to stick to the bag filter, so pulse-jet cleaning systems work more effectively and bag life is extended. Its chemically inert structure gives high resistance to acids, bases, oil vapours and corrosive gases. High filtration efficiency helps reduce emissions, supporting compliance with environmental regulations and improving plants’ environmental performance.

Product Identity and Technical Summary

Prosestim PTFE (Teflon) bag filters are made by needle-punching 100% pure polytetrafluoroethylene fluoropolymer fibres in the 700–800 g/m² weight range. Thanks to a continuous operating temperature of 240 °C, complete chemical inertness across pH 0–14 and absolute resistance to hydrolysis, they keep the bag intact on extremely aggressive flue gas lines where conventional filter media break down; with the ePTFE membrane option, they achieve ultra-low emission performance of ≤ 1 mg/Nm³ for sub-micron particles.

Surface Finish Property Recommended Application
Singeing Smooths the surface and improves dust release. General high-temperature and chemical applications
Calendering Smooths the surface and is compatible with pulse-jet cleaning systems. General industrial applications
ePTFE Membrane Provides surface filtration, ≤ 1 mg/Nm³ emission performance and high dust release performance. Applications requiring ultra-low emission limits
Antistatic Helps dissipate static charges in a controlled way. Applications involving combustible dust

Advantages of the PTFE (Teflon) Bag Filter

PTFE bag filters rank highest among all filtration media for chemical resistance. They are the final, reliable solution wherever other media reach their limits.
Chemical Resistance Across the Full pH Range
Outstanding chemical inertness to acids, bases, oil vapours and corrosive gases across the full pH 0–14 range; chemical compatibility no other fibre medium can match.
High Temperature Resistance
Withstands 240 °C continuously and 260 °C peaks; works reliably in processes where other high-temperature media, including Nomex, fall short.
Naturally Non-Stick Surface
Thanks to its low surface energy, the dust cake separates easily; pulse-jet cleaning systems work more effectively and the risk of media blinding is minimised.
Excellent Hydrolysis Resistance
The fibre structure does not break down through humidity, condensation and dew point transitions; stable performance in the most humid and corrosive flue gas environments.
Long Service Life
3–5 times longer service life than standard filtration media; the high initial cost turns into a low total cost of ownership over the long term.
Ultra-Low Emissions
Emission values of ≤ 1 mg/Nm³ with an ePTFE membrane; compliance with environmental regulations and improved environmental performance for plants.

Frequently Asked Questions

At Prosestim, we are committed to answering your questions and providing technical support for our filtration solutions.

What is a PTFE (Teflon) bag filter?
It is a high-performance dust filtration medium made from polytetrafluoroethylene fibre by the needle-punched felt method. With its chemically inert structure, low surface energy and continuous operating temperature of 240 °C, it is the final filtration solution chosen for applications where all other media fall short.
Compared with PPS, PTFE offers wider chemical resistance (pH 0–14) and higher temperature resistance (240 °C vs 190 °C). PTFE is preferred in strongly oxidising environments where PPS falls short and in applications that require the full pH range.
With a continuous operating temperature of 204 °C and good flex abrasion resistance, Nomex is an economical choice for medium-to-high temperature applications. PTFE withstands up to 240 °C and clearly outperforms Nomex in chemical resistance, but it costs more.
PTFE bag filters withstand 240 °C continuously and 260 °C peaks.
It is compatible with pulse-jet, reverse-air and shaker systems.
Yes, custom production is available in non-standard diameter, length and surface treatment combinations.
