Product Identity and Technical Summary Panel
The Washable Cartridge Filter (PP / SS 304) family is a reusable filtration element that separates coarse solids such as sand, rust and sediment in liquid lines. Every variant is checked for dimensions, sealing and accuracy of the mesh opening before shipment.
The series combines nominal precision grades from 50 to 300 microns with two different mesh materials. This means the same cartridge form can be used in different environments, from domestic and agricultural water lines to industrial cooling circuits and chemical and food processes. The common PP body stays the same; only the surface material and mesh opening change. Different fluids can thus be handled without changing the filter housing standard.
Three parameters determine the choice of variant: the mesh opening sets the particle size to be retained, the mesh material the temperature and chemical resistance, and the gasket and connection type the leak-tight seating in the housing. If any one is chosen wrongly, the cartridge loses its efficiency after washing or even bypasses. That is why the type, temperature and particle profile of the fluid should be considered together before the micron rating.

Water Flow Rate Performance
Washable cartridge filters are designed with surface filtration technology to offer minimal resistance to fluid flow. The pore structure, fixed by thermal fusion, keeps the initial differential pressure (ΔP) to a minimum on high-flow lines and ensures system stability. PP mesh improves energy efficiency with a low ΔP, while SS 304 mesh maintains the same hydraulic stability under high-pressure conditions. The test data below show the pressure-flow characteristics of both series on a 10″ basis.
Performance Advantages in Water Filtration
- Low Operating Pressure Loss
- High-Permeability Surface Filtration
- Low OPEX and Reusability
- Broad Industrial Chemical Compatibility
Filtration Architecture and Working Principle
Unlike single-use depth filters, washable cartridge filters are built on a surface filtration and reusability architecture. In both series, the liquid passes through the mesh surface from outside to inside; coarse particles and sediment are retained on the outer surface while clean fluid leaves through the inner channel. The mesh material is chosen as PP or SS 304 according to operating conditions.
A Washable Mesh Solution for High-Flow Lines
Instead of trapping particles in inner layers, washable cartridges hold them on the mesh surface. Accumulated dirt is removed by manual washing or compressed air; chemical cleaning can also be applied to SS 304 models. With a precision range of 50–300 µm, they provide long-lasting, uninterrupted protection on high-flow lines.
Rigid Polypropylene Body and Chemical Resistance
The mesh surface is fixed to a rigid 100% pure polypropylene frame by thermal welding; no adhesives or chemical binders are used. The frame keeps its form at high differential pressure and through repeated wash cycles; the mesh opening does not change, and the cartridge continues to work at the same micron rating after every wash. With a PP frame and PP or SS 304 mesh, it offers wide chemical resistance with water-based fluids and dilute acids and bases.
Low Pressure Drop and Cylindrical Flow Geometry
The cylindrical structure of washable cartridges distributes fluid evenly over the filter surface; differential pressure stays low compared with equivalent depth filters. The open surface area of the mesh reduces flow resistance. The pressure difference that rises with contamination gives a direct signal for cleaning time; filter life is extended and maintenance time shortened.
Filter Media and Structural Engineering Design
Washable cartridge filters offer high mechanical strength, long service life and low operating costs for industrial applications that need reusable filtration. They are made with high-strength thermal fusion technology, with PP woven mesh or SS 304 stainless steel mesh surface options on a 100% pure polypropylene frame, without adhesives, resins or binders.
Both series work on the surface filtration principle, retaining sand, sediment, rust, metal particles and other solids on the mesh surface. Particles that do not penetrate the depth of the filter media are easily removed by manual washing or compressed air, so the cartridge can be reused.
PP Mesh filters offer an economical solution especially for water filtration and general particle retention, while SS 304 Mesh filters are preferred in processes requiring higher mechanical strength. Under suitable conditions, the SS mesh structure is also suitable for chemical cleaning and sterilisation.
Reusable for up to 500+ wash cycles with correct cleaning and operating conditions, these filters reduce cartridge change frequency and consumable costs while also cutting filter waste, giving a more sustainable filtration solution.

Sealing and Connection Components
The washable cartridge filter can be made with different end cap and sealing options to suit the filter housing connection and process conditions. Besides standard gasket models, 222 O-ring and 226 non-locking O-ring connection options can also be applied. The gasket or O-ring material is chosen according to the chemical nature of the process liquid, temperature, pressure and sealing requirements.
End Caps and Closures
On the washable cartridge, the end caps are bonded to the PP frame by thermal fusion. Because the cartridge is removed and refitted at every cleaning, the connection must provide the same seal every time. The series uses DOE (gasket), 222 O-ring and 226 O-ring end caps; the right end cap is chosen to suit the seat in your existing filter housing.
Engineering Advantage for Process Safety

O-rings
On a washable cartridge, the O-ring reseats in its groove at every cleaning cycle. A material that keeps its flexibility and is compatible with the process fluid must therefore be chosen. The series offers silicone and NBR / EPDM O-ring options: silicone is preferred for drinking water and food lines, NBR / EPDM for general water and process lines. Check the O-ring at every wash and replace it if necessary.

Cleaning, Disinfection and Backwashing
Cleaning and backwashing of washable cartridge filters are carried out to remove the particle load accumulated on the filtration surface in a controlled way and to preserve the cartridge’s reusability. Thanks to its PP body and PP mesh or SS 304 mesh filtration surface, the product is designed to withstand rinsing with hot water, suitable chemical disinfection and backwashing in the reverse flow direction.
In standard applications, hot water cleaning and chemical disinfection methods suited to process conditions should be used instead of steam sterilisation. For the PP mesh option the temperature limit is assessed against the resistance of the PP material, while for the SS 304 mesh option, although it offers higher thermal resistance, the cartridge’s PP body and end cap construction must be taken into account. Backwash performance varies with particle type, contamination load, flow direction, differential pressure and the gasket material used.

Washable Surface Filtration and Operational Sustainability
Thanks to their smooth surface and precision mesh technology, our washable filters hold particles on the outer surface instead of trapping them in depth, so they are easy to clean. In our field experience, choosing this technology instead of depth filters for fluids with high particle loads such as coarse sediment and sand significantly reduces operational downtime. To maintain system efficiency, we recommend starting the cleaning cycle when the differential pressure (ΔP) reaches its threshold.
When should it be chosen?
In coarse particle filtration, in processes that need sand and sediment retention, in pre-filtration stages protecting the main filtration unit, and in recovery projects aiming to lower the total cost of ownership (TCO).
Application and Selection Criteria
- Low TCO and Long Service Life
- Unlike single-use cartridges, they can be washed and reused many times, significantly lowering annual filter operating and consumable costs.
- Differential Pressure (ΔP) and Washing Interval
- When the inlet–outlet differential pressure (ΔP) reaches its threshold, plan backwashing or manual cleaning to maintain line flow and avoid straining the media.
- Sealing and Food-Compatible Lubricant
- To preserve the flexibility and sealing life of gaskets and O-rings, always use food-compatible pure silicone grease instead of mineral oils during maintenance.
- Micron Selection by Particle Profile
- Choose the micron rating according to the smallest particle size to be retained. A mesh finer than necessary clogs faster, increases washing frequency and reduces line flow.

Your Questions Answered
Frequently Asked Questions
At Prosestim, we are committed to answering your questions and providing technical support for our filtration solutions.
What is the difference between PP mesh and SS 304 mesh cartridge filters?
PP mesh cartridges are lightweight and chemically compatible with a wide range of fluids; they are preferred with acids, bases and water-based fluids. SS 304 mesh cartridges are used with fluids that exceed PP mesh’s resistance limits, such as aromatic hydrocarbons, and under higher mechanical stress. On lines that require high temperatures, the heat-resistant model should be chosen. In saline and seawater applications, SS 304 shows moderate resistance to chloride corrosion, while PP performs well in these environments.
How many times can a washable mesh cartridge filter be washed?
The number of cleaning cycles depends on the fluid’s contaminant load and the cleaning method used. In the PP mesh series, mechanical integrity is maintained even after 500 wash cycles. In the SS 304 series, this value is higher with chemical cleaning cycles. Deformation of the mesh or broken wires are the main indicators for replacement timing.
What is the difference between a mesh cartridge filter and a melt-blown cartridge filter, and which should I choose?
Up to what temperature can a PP mesh cartridge filter withstand?
Which housings is the mesh cartridge filter compatible with?
Should I choose a silicone or an NBR gasket?
When should a washable mesh filter be replaced?
In which applications is a mesh cartridge filter not used?
A mesh cartridge is not adequate for applications requiring filtration below 50 µm; a melt-blown or pleated cartridge should be chosen instead. It is also not suitable for high-viscosity fluids or systems that exceed the cartridge’s flow capacity. PP mesh is incompatible with chlorinated solvents; for these environments, SS 304 or a chemically resistant alternative medium should be chosen.
How much does a washable mesh filter save compared with a single-use filter?
A washable mesh cartridge gives significant savings in cartridge costs compared with a single-use filter. Savings are highest on coarse particle pre-filtration lines with a high contaminant load that need frequent changes. Because the same cartridge can be used for 500+ wash cycles, annual filter consumable costs fall significantly; downtime and labour costs for change-outs are also reduced.
Can PP mesh cartridges be used on food and drinking water lines?
