What Is an SPS Bag Filter?
SPS bag filters are a three-layer liquid filtration medium with a polypropylene core layer between two outer spunbond layers. Whereas the SCS bag filter has a natural cotton core, the SPS uses a synthetic polypropylene core; this design gives safe operation and fine particle retention down to 0.5 µm in high-viscosity liquids containing acids, alkalis and many solvents. The outer spunbond layers stop fibre migration and prevent fibres from getting into the cleaned liquid, while the polypropylene core provides in-depth filtration with high dirt-holding capacity in chemically demanding processes.
SPS bag filters are not a standard product; each is made specifically for the process according to liquid type, viscosity, temperature and chemical profile. They are designed to meet critical filtration requirements in chemically aggressive, high-viscosity liquids where standard bag filters fall short.
Product Identity and Technical Summary
SPS bag filters are three-layer synthetic depth filters made by laminating two outer spunbond polypropylene layers with a polypropylene core layer in the middle. They offer operating temperatures up to 90 °C and resistance to acids, alkalis and solvents across the full pH 1–14 range, retaining particles at 0.5–0.8 µm in high-viscosity aggressive liquids. Their fully synthetic structure prevents fibre migration and preserves filtration efficiency.

SPS Bag Filter Layer Structure
| Layer | Material | Function |
|---|---|---|
| Outer Layer (Inlet Surface) | Spunbond nonwoven fabric | Retains large particles as a pre-stage, protecting the PP core and providing mechanical strength. |
| Middle Layer | Polypropylene (PP) | Retains fine particles down to 0.5 µm in depth in high-viscosity liquids and provides high chemical resistance in the pH 1–14 range. |
| Inner Layer (Outlet Surface) | Spunbond nonwoven fabric | Stops fibres that may come loose from the PP layer from getting into the cleaned liquid and provides dimensional stability. |
Advantages of the SPS Bag Filter
- Sub-Micron Particle Retention
- Fine particle retention down to 0.5 µm in high-viscosity liquids, a level of precision standard bag filters cannot reach.
- Chemical Resistance Across the Full pH Range
- The PP core layer is compatible with acids, alkalis and many solvents across the full pH 1–14 range, overcoming the chemical limitations of the SCS cotton core.
- High Viscosity Compatibility
- Effective depth filtration in thick, heavy process liquids; works reliably in processes where standard media designed for low-viscosity liquids fall short.
- Fibre Migration Protection
- The spunbond outer layers stop fibres that may come loose from the PP core from getting into the cleaned liquid.
- Made to Process Requirements
- Made specifically according to liquid type, viscosity, temperature and chemical profile; non-standard requirements are met.
- Silicone-Free Construction
- A synthetic construction free of silicone and contaminating additives; can be used safely on sensitive process lines.
