What Is a Multifilament Polypropylene Bag Filter?
Multifilament polypropylene bag filters are a woven liquid filtration medium made by processing yarn, formed by twisting several fine polypropylene filaments, on precision looms. They work on the surface filtration principle; particles are retained on the woven surface and in the spaces between the filaments. They share the same structural logic as multifilament polyester; the main difference lies in the material properties: polypropylene offers wider chemical resistance than polyester to acids and
alkalis across the full pH 1–14 range.
The most notable advantage of multifilament polypropylene bag filters is that they combine wide chemical compatibility with an economical cost structure. In applications with acid- and alkali-containing process liquids where polyester falls short, the PP woven bag is an economical and reliable alternative. However, its operating temperature limit (82 °C) is significantly lower than that of polyester (135 °C); if temperature is the limiting factor, polyester multifilament should be chosen.
Product Identity and Technical Summary
Multifilament polypropylene (PPMU) bag filters are an economical surface filtration medium made by twisting and weaving many fine polypropylene filaments. They retain coarse and medium solids in the 75–1500 µm range at high flow with low pressure loss, while providing high chemical resistance to acids and alkalis across the full pH 1–14 range. They offer operating temperatures up to 82 °C and, with their food-compatible silicone-free construction, are used safely on sensitive process lines.

Collar Types and Adapters

Plastic Ring (PP Ring)
Polypropylene ring, stitched or welded. Used where full chemical resistance is required.

Steel Ring (Snap Ring)
Galvanised or stainless steel ring. The most widely used, economical standard collar.

Drawstring
Can be tied manually to any pipe outlet or special hanger with the drawstring.

Plastic Flange (Flange Top)
The plastic collar gives very high sealing. Suitable for high-pressure systems.

Plain Top
Has no ring; suitable for machines with a special clamping device.

Snap Ring (Snap Band)
The flexible steel band clicks into its seat. Allows fast change-outs.
Advantages of the Multifilament Polypropylene Bag Filter
- Chemical Resistance Across the Full pH Range
- Compatibility with acids, alkalis and many solvents across the full pH 1–14 range; works reliably in corrosive liquids where polyester multifilament bags fall short.
- Cost-Effective
- A clear cost advantage when its wide chemical compatibility is compared with high-cost alternatives; low operating costs in applications that require coarse filtration.
- Wide Micron Range
- Wide micron options from 75 to 1,500 µm, adaptable to different coarse filtration needs.
- High Dirt-Holding Capacity
- The spaces between the filaments of the multifilament structure provide higher dirt-holding capacity than monofilament.
- Food Compatibility
- Food-contact-compliant silicone-free construction; can be used safely in food and beverage applications.
- Low Pressure Drop
- The open-pore woven surface gives a low pressure drop at high flow rates.

Multifilament Polypropylene Bag Filter
Your Questions Answered
Frequently Asked Questions
At Prosestim, we are committed to answering your questions and providing technical support for our filtration solutions.
What is a multifilament polypropylene bag filter?
It is an economical surface filtration bag made by twisting and weaving many fine polypropylene filaments, with high chemical resistance in the pH 1–14 range.
How does it differ from polyester multifilament?
What is the operating temperature limit?
Can it be washed and reused?
It can be washed to a limited extent; however, the pore geometry of the multifilament structure cannot be fully recovered after washing. Monofilament bags are more suitable for reuse.
Can it be used in food applications?
Which micron rating should I choose?
It is selected according to the smallest particle size to be retained. For critical applications that require an exact micron cut-off, a monofilament bag should be used.
Do you manufacture custom sizes?
Yes, custom production is available in non-standard size and micron combinations.
